unlce tom's cabin

interactive ux design

This is a design layout for an interactive chapter of Uncle Tom's Cabin, a 19th century anti-slavery novel. It was entered for the 2017 ISTD student design awards and uses effective user interface with some illustrations from the 1853 edition to explain the themes of the book and why it was banned. Interactive elements focused on censorship of the horrors of slavery in the American South at the time. Harriet Breecher Stowe's novel exposed the way people made excuses for slavery and the interactive elements were designed to reinforce this theme.
